LONDON, Jan. 5, 2026 /CNW/ — The global smart pet appliances market is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by a surge in pet humanization and a growing demand for devices that blend convenience with health monitoring capabilities, according to a new report released Wednesday by market research firm PetTech Insights. As more households treat their furry companions as integral family members, the industry is shifting from basic automation—such as simple feeders and water fountains—to sophisticated, AI-powered ecosystems that track pet health metrics, streamline care routines, and even foster stronger bonds between pets and their owners.

The report projects that the global smart pet appliances market will reach $18.7 billion by 2030, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3% from 2026 to 2030. This growth is fueled by key trends, including the rise of remote pet monitoring, the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology into everyday pet care products, and a growing awareness of preventive health care for pets. North America currently leads the market, accounting for 38% of global revenue in 2025, followed closely by Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, where urbanization and rising disposable incomes are spurring adoption among young, tech-savvy pet owners.

One of the most notable shifts in the market is the move beyond convenience-focused devices to those that prioritize pet wellness. Brands are increasingly embedding sensors, cameras, and AI algorithms into products to collect actionable data—from a cat’s litter box habits to a dog’s water intake and activity levels. For instance, smart litter boxes now analyze urine output and stool consistency to flag early signs of urinary tract infections or digestive issues, while advanced feeders can adjust portion sizes based on a pet’s age, weight, and activity level, helping combat obesity, a growing concern for 60% of dogs and 50% of cats in the U.S., according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention.

“Gone are the days when a smart pet feeder was just a tool to dispense food while the owner was away,” said Clara Bennett, lead analyst at PetTech Insights and author of the report. “Today’s pet parents want more—they want to understand their pet’s health, anticipate potential issues before they escalate, and provide personalized care that aligns with their pet’s unique needs. Smart appliances are no longer a luxury; they’re a necessity for a generation that views pet care through the same lens as human health care.”

The report also highlights the growing popularity of smart pet cameras with two-way audio and treat-dispensing features, which have become a staple for pet owners who travel frequently or work long hours. These devices not only allow owners to check in on their pets remotely but also enable interactive play—such as laser pointers controlled via smartphone—to reduce separation anxiety and keep pets mentally stimulated. In 2025, smart pet cameras accounted for 22% of the global market share, with sales jumping 19% year-over-year as post-pandemic travel resumed and owners sought ways to stay connected to their pets while away from home.

Another emerging segment is smart grooming appliances, which are gaining traction as pet owners seek salon-quality care in the comfort of their homes. Smart nail grinders with pressure sensors prevent over-trimming and injury, while AI-powered fur clippers adjust blade speed based on coat thickness, reducing the risk of nicks and tangles. Even smart pet baths are entering the market, equipped with temperature control and water-saving features to make bath time less stressful for both pets and owners.

However, the market is not without its challenges. Cost remains a barrier for many consumers, with high-end smart pet appliances priced significantly higher than their non-connected counterparts. A premium smart litter box, for example, can cost upwards of $500, while a basic automatic feeder may retail for under $50. Additionally, concerns about data privacy and device reliability have been raised by some pet owners, who worry about the security of their pet’s health data and the durability of devices designed to withstand curious, chewy pets.

To address these concerns, leading brands are investing in robust cybersecurity measures and offering extended warranties, while also expanding their product lines to include more affordable, entry-level smart devices. For example, budget-friendly smart water fountains with basic filtration systems and app connectivity are now available for under $100, making tech-driven pet care accessible to a broader audience.

Industry experts also note that partnerships between pet tech companies and veterinary practices are becoming increasingly common, as veterinarians recognize the value of data collected by smart appliances in diagnosing and managing pet health conditions. Some brands now offer integration with veterinary portals, allowing pet owners to share their pet’s health data directly with their vet, enabling more personalized and proactive care plans.

As the market continues to evolve, innovation shows no signs of slowing down. Looking ahead, PetTech Insights predicts that the next wave of smart pet appliances will focus on personalized nutrition, with feeders that can mix custom meals based on a pet’s dietary needs, and wearable devices that track vital signs such as heart rate and respiratory rate in real time. For pets with chronic conditions like diabetes or arthritis, these devices could be life-changing, providing continuous monitoring and alerting owners to potential emergencies before they become critical.

“Pet humanization is not a passing trend—it’s a cultural shift that is reshaping the way we care for our pets,” Bennett added. “Smart pet appliances are at the forefront of this shift, bridging the gap between convenience and wellness, and empowering pet owners to be more proactive in their pet’s health journey. As technology continues to advance, the bond between pets and their owners will only grow stronger, driven by devices that not only make care easier but also help us understand our furry friends better than ever before.”

The report concludes that as pet parents continue to prioritize their pet’s health and happiness, the smart pet appliances market will remain a dynamic and fast-growing sector, with innovation and consumer-centric design leading the way forward.
