CEOs of 15 of Europe's leading home appliance brands send an open letter to the European Commission. They urge the EU to include their €79 bn industry in its strategy, warning of threats to manufacturing, jobs and innovation.
Europe's leading home appliance manufacturers are calling on the European Commission to formally recognise their role in the continent's industrial base. In a joint letter addressed to Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, the chief executives of major European appliance brands call for inclusion in the EU's industrial strategy.
They argue that without support, the sector faces growing pressures that threaten its manufacturing footprint, innovation capacity and long - term competitiveness. The business leaders write on behalf of one of Europe's largest manufacturing sectors, both in terms of economic value and employment.
With 130 manufacturing sites across the continent, the home appliance industry supports one million jobs and contributes €79 bn (US $92 bn) to the EU economy. It is fully integrated into European design, engineering and production, with exports reaching global markets.
The ceos warn that the industry sits in a “policy gap” between green targets and industrial policy, leaving it without the strategic support other sectors receive. They specifically want simplified regulation, incentives for manufacturing within Europe, and targeted investment to support innovation and decarbonisation.
